Despite Spring and Summer Rains Flooding Is Not Yet A Concern On Area Lakes
According to data put out by the USGS Madison's Chain-Of-Lakes face the highest levels since 2020's summer. Lake Mendota, Lake Monona, and Lake Waubesa are all at least a foot above the maximum water marks Dane county aims for each summer. There is a slight concern by John Reimer, assistant director of Dane County’s Land and Water Resources Department, regarding the lake levels .are 20 to 25 inches lower than they were during the summer floods of 2018. To combat the current levels Dane county is opening the dams between area lakes at higher percentages, Tenney Lapham locks which control water levels for Lake Monona and Mendota are opened at 50%.
PFAS Found In High Levels On Lake Monona
According to a recent study of 43 lakes and rivers, Madison's Lake Monona's foam has highest PFAS levels in Wisconsin study finds
The highest PFAS levels were in concentrations as high as 328,000 parts per trillion, around 7,000 times the level in the water below. Just downstream. Another Chain-of-Lake, Lake Waubesa came with second, highest level with PFAS in in the foam of more than 200,000 parts per trillion. The DNR advices people to avoid coming in contact with the foam as it poses a serious health risk, .
